Clarrie Wallis is Senior Curator of Contemporary Art. She holds an MA in Curating from the Royal College of Art, London and a BA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martin’s School of Art and Design, London.

Since joining Tate Modern in 2000, Clarrie has been responsible for contributing to the planning, development and implementation of the Exhibitions & Displays programme at Tate with specific reference to British Art from 1960 to the present. Clarrie is responsible for the 《Art Now》 programme at Tate Britain which show cases the work of emerging artists including Marguerite Humeau and Lisa Brice. She also focuses on acquisitions of contemporary and emerging art and since 2012 has been a member of the Selection Committee for Frieze Tate Fund. She is a member of the Fine Art Faculty of The British School at Rome.

Areas of research include contemporary painting and British sculpture after 1965 with particular reference to artists associated with the Sculpture department at Central Saint Martin’s School of Art and Design, London, who are part of an international generation of artists that extended the possibilities of sculpture beyond traditional materials and methods. She has published and lectured extensively on contemporary art including a 『Richard Long Reader, Ridinghouse』 and monographs on 『Patrick Caulfield, Tate』 and 『Richard Deacon, Tate』.

Clarrie has curated a number of major exhibitions for Tate including 《Mona Hatoum》, 《Patrick Caulfield》, 《Painting Now: Five Contemporary Artists》, 《Barry Flanagan》, 《Richard Long: Heaven and Earth》 and 《Tacita Dean: Recent Films and other Works》. She curated the 《Duveens Commission》 in 2001, 2007 and 2016 working with artists Mona Hatoum, Mark Wallinger and Cerith Wyn Evans.
