2018-2022 The Archive of Gapado AiR Artists
2023.08.22

The Jeju Culture and Arts Foundation is hosting an archive exhibition of the artists who participated in the Gapado AiR program. This archive exhibition, taking place at the Hyundai Card Design Library, showcases various archival materials such as manuscripts and sketches from the artists. This exhibition continues the theme of the previous exhibition, (July 6-16, 2023, Kumho Museum of Art).

Gapado AiR is a part of the Gapado Project that began in 2018, initiated through a collaboration between Jeju Special Self-Governing Province and Hyundai Card to develop the cultural infrastructure of Gapado.

Alongside the archival materials of resident artists, this exhibition will also feature video works by resident artists Kim Yousun and An Jungju + Jun Sojung. Kim Yousun's work, titled 'Stars Born from the Sea,' centers around the sea and stars of Gapado Island. She reproduces the shining stars within oneself and in the darkness as fragments, presenting them through video. Furthermore, An Jungju+Jun Sojung results in the creation of the artwork 'Forest Ghost Flower,' set against the backdrop of a small garden, serving as a metaphor for the history, ecology, and culture of Gapado Island. Through scenes from this small garden, viewers can experience the sensation of a place that traverses the present, future, virtual, and real, all captured in video art.

Furthermore, through a documentary featuring interviews with the artists, viewers will be able to feel and understand the 'sense and mind' of the artists. Moreover, they will have the opportunity to experience the unique environment of an island within an island through artworks and records.
